founder and owner of L'Orchestre Tropicana D'Haiti dies at age 92
On October 30, 2009, the founder and owner of L'orchestre Tropicana D'Haiti, Claudin Toussaint, dies at the age of 92. Claudin Toussaint, in 1942, created the first band that ever existed in Cap Haitian, Haiti, Jazz Capois. The band was later named Jazz Caraibes. During that time, Claudin Toussaint took musicians such as Ulrick Pierre-Louis and Webert Sicot and put them under his wing, to play in his band. In 1963, the name of the band was changed againt to TROPICANA after the famous Cuban nightclub. TROPICANA is one of the legendary bands that still exist today. Claudin Toussaint has left a legacy and his mark in the music industry. Members of the band will be giving hommage to this icon at his funeral which will be held on November 14, 2009.
